Awarding significant achievements in research
The EDCTP Prizes recognise outstanding individuals and research teams from Africa and Europe for their contributions to global health research and innovation, including scientific leadership, research collaboration and strengthening clinical research capacity in sub-Saharan Africa.
A wide field of candidates
The 38 applications are distributed across the seven prize categories as follows:
- Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize: 12 applications
- Outstanding Female Scientist Prize: 9 applications
- Outstanding Research Team Prize: 10 applications
- Scientific Leadership - Male, Europe: 1 application
- Scientific Leadership - Male, sub-Saharan Africa: 3 applications
- Scientific Leadership - Female, Europe: 2 applications
- Scientific Leadership - Female, sub-Saharan Africa: 1 application
Next steps
The submitted applications will now undergo eligibility and admissibility checks, after which eligible applications will proceed to the evaluation stage. The winners will be announced during the EDCTP Forum 2027, taking place from 5-9 April 2027 in Madrid, Spain.
About the prizes
The prizes include awards of up to €50,000. The Dr Pascoal Mocumbi Prize and the Outstanding Research Team Prize each carry a €50,000 award; the Outstanding Female Scientist Prize, €20,000; and the four Scientific Leadership Prizes, €15,000 each.
