The global health landscape is evolving rapidly, driven by population growth, urbanization, globalization, and the increasing frequency of climate-related disasters. These dynamic changes expose populations to emerging and re-emerging disease threats and risk factors, challenging the resilience of health systems worldwide.
Today more than ever, public health leaders — particularly those leading National Public Health Institutes (NPHIs) — must anchor their decisions in robust research and evidence. Strategic investment in research is essential for health systems strengthening, ensuring timely adaptation of policies, improving healthcare quality and coverage, and building equitable, resilient societies. This session will explore how NPHIs and partner research institutions are championing research to drive evidence-based public health policies and systemic change, recongnising the collaboration with the European & Developing Countries Clinical Trials Partnership (EDCTP) to accelerate the development of new or improved interventions against diseases and to support capacity building in Africa.
